Early Life
Caleb Sylvester Swanigan was born on April 18, 1997, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the U.S. to Carl Swanigan Sr. and Tanya. He had 5 siblings. Due to his father’s crack cocaine addiction, he grew up in a volatile household.
Swanigan attended 13 different schools by the time he was 13 years old, switching between homeless shelters and schools as a young boy. Swanigan weighed 360 pounds and stood 6 feet 2 inches when he started eighth grade.
His father struggled with drug addiction for the majority of his adult life and had numerous run-ins with the law. Later, Caleb and his family moved to Houston. When Caleb was 8 years old, he was adopted.
His former AAU basketball coach, Roosevelt Barnes, adopted him. By the time he was 16 years old, Barnes had him working out with him and had him down to 260 pounds.

High School Career
Swanigan went to Homestead High School and shared a no. with Barnes, 44. He also took part in a basketball camp run by John Lucas, a former NBA coach. He led Homestead to its first-ever state championship.
There he was voted Indiana’s Mr Basketball. He had a 22.6 point and 13.7 rebound average as a senior. He graduated in three years as opposed to the typical four while maintaining a 3.1 GPA.

College Career
