Richard Wayne Van Dyke was born on December 13, 1925, in The West Plains of Missouri, U.S. Regardless of being born in the West Plains, He spent most of his childhood in Danville, Illinois. Hazel Victoria, her mother was a Stenographer.
Whereas his father Loren Wayne Van Dyke was a Salesman. His parents had two children, he being elder to his brother, Jerry Van Dyke, who was an actor and appeared in The Dick Van Dyke Show.
In his early youth, Van Dyke considered a career in the ministry, though his keen interest in drama class in high school persuaded him to become a professional entertainer. He taught at Sunday school in the Presbyterian Church. He was an elder at the church and also read theologians.

Radio and Stage Performances
Van Dyke was a radio DJ in the late ’40s on WDAN in Danville, Illinois. He was then convinced to start a comedy duo called ‘Eric and Van – The Merry Mutes’ by Phil Erickson, a pantomime performer.
They then moved to Atlanta, Georgia to perform in a local TV show featuring original plays and musicals called ‘The Merry Mutes’ in the early 1950s. Van Dyke made his first broadway debut in The Girls Against the Boys and played a lead role in Bye Bye Birdie as Albert Peterson.
The team went on many tours. In 1961, Bye Bye Birdie won four Tony awards including Best Featured Actor Tony to Van Dyke. He also appeared in the lead role in the first Broadway revival of The Music Man in 1980.
Television
Van Dyke started with WDSU Orleans Channel 6, NBC television at first as a single comedian, and later as the emcee of comedy programs. He appeared for the first time with Dennis James on James’ Chance of a Lifetime on the TV network in 1954.
He appeared on ABC’s The Pat Boone Chevy Showroom and NBC’s The Polly Bergen Show, bringing him a seven-year contract with the network. Van Dyke hosted the CBS sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show, portraying a comedy writer named Rob Petrie.
The series won four Emmy Awards for being an Outstanding comedy series and he individually won three Emmy Awards as an Outstanding Lead Actor in Comedy series. 1971-1974: He hosted The New Dick Van Dyke Show on local tv for which he received a Golden Globe nomination.
He also gave voice for an animated series, ‘ Scooby-Doo Meets Dick Van Dyke’ by Hanna Barbera in 1973. In 1974, he received an Emmy Award nomination for his role as an alcoholic businessman in the movie The Morning After.

Van Dyke’s first-ever film was Bye Bye Birdie in 1963 in which he played the role of Albert J. Peterson. Then he was in the star cast of Walt Disney’s Mary Poppins and then Mary Poppins returns.
