Early Life
Durk was born in Englewood, Southern Chicago, Illinois on October 19, 1992, and grew up with a lot of responsibility as his father permanently went to jail when he was seven months old.
He recalls that they often did not have enough food when he was younger. His breakthrough on social media was on platforms like MySpace and YouTube and began rapping as he was fond of the fan base he got.
He became a father at the age of 17 and dropped out of Paul Robeson High School, to join a street gang called ‘Black Disciples.’ Durk however got into a lot of trouble and got charged in 2011 for possessing guns with defaced serial numbers.
He pleaded guilty later and asked for a reduced charge for the same. In 2011 after the legal issues, Durk began to take music seriously and decided to venture into it as a career.

Durk signed with Def Jam Recording after ‘L’s Anthem,’ became a popular track along with the single ‘Dis Ain’t What U Want,’ in 2013. The deal was a joint venture between Only the Family and Def Jam Recordings.
