Born June 16, 1970, in San Diego, California, Philip Alfred Mickelson began playing golf when he was just a toddler. Phil and Mary Mickelson have long told how their son ran away from home when he was three years old, telling neighbors he was heading to the golf course.
Mickelson began playing golf as an amateur when he was a teenager. He won 34 titles in the San Diego Junior Golf Association, utilizing his father’s employment as an airline pilot to get tickets to his events.
His mother took on a second job to assist fund his American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) career, which earned him three consecutive AJGA Rolex Player of the Year titles and a full scholarship to Arizona State University.

Phil Mickelson married Amy McBride and together have three children together. Phil’s ‘PGA Tour’ schedule was momentarily postponed after Amy’s diagnosis with breast cancer in 2009. He returned to play after physicians informed him that cancer had been identified early and treatable.
