Early Life
Robin Simone Givens was born in New York City on 27 November 1964 to Reuben Givens and Ruth Roper. Her parents split when she was two years old, leaving her and her sister Stephanie to be raised by their mother in Mount Vernon and New Rochelle, New York.
Givens’ mother encouraged them to pursue creative pursuits. She developed an interest in acting over time and enrolled in acting classes at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.
Givens attended New Rochelle Academy and later Sarah Lawrence College as a pre-medical major student where she graduated in 1984. She also enrolled in Harvard Medical School and studied there for 2 years, but she did not complete her graduation.
Career
Givens began her career as a teenage model, appearing in magazines such as Seventeen and Mademoiselle. Givens quickly made his way into the entertainment industry. Givens made her film debut in The Wiz when she was 14 years old.
She also had a cameo role in Fort Apache: The Bronx. Givens then had her first credited part in an episode of The Cosby Show in 1985. She made her television debut in the 1986 drama picture Beverly Hills Madam, which aired on NBC.

In 1986, Givens was cast as Darlene Merriman in the ABC sitcom series Head of the Class. Her performance as the character in all five seasons earned her worldwide recognition. Givens appeared in several notable films both during and after the run of the ABC sitcom till 1991.

Givens previously dated Eddie Murphy for a year when he was 16 in the early 1980s and Michael Jordan for a brief period in the late 1980s. In 1988, Givens married a famous boxer Mike Tyson and the couple lived together until 1989.
Following their divorce due to Tyson’s abusive and jealous nature, Tyson fans accused Givens of being a “gold digger.” The New York-based actress was also dubbed “America’s Most Hated Woman.” She reportedly also has dated Brad Pitt, Howard Stern, and a number of tennis players.
