Early Life
Ryan John Seacrest was born on December 24, 1974, in Atlanta, Georgia to Constance Marie Seacrest and Gary Lee Seacrest, a real estate lawyer. His father was a lieutenant in the US Army, and his grandpa was a major general.
He obtained an internship at Atlanta’s 94.1 WSTR when he was 16 years old. He graduated from Dunwoody High School in 1992 and went on to the University of Georgia to study journalism. At the age of 19, Ryan Seacrest dropped out of university but later The University of Georgia honored Ryan Seacrest with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree in 2016.
Career
Ryan was the host of the inaugural season of ESPN’s Radical Outdoor Challenge in 1993. Seacrest appeared as a host on Beverly Hills, 90210 as the host of the fake game show Lover’s Lane in “The Final Proof.”
In 2002, Ryan Seacrest and Brian Dunkleman co-hosted American Idol. He presented the spin-off show American Juniors in 2003. Seacrest took over as host of the American Top 40 radio show in 2004.
From a studio at WABC-TV in New York City, he has been broadcasting since 2017. He was honored as one of the 16th Annual Giants of Broadcasting by the Library of American Broadcasting Foundation in 2018.
Seacrest’s three-year hosting contract with E! entailed executive producing credits on a variety of shows, such as E! News and the network’s coverage of red carpet awards shows. Seacrest founded Ryan Seacrest Productions (RSP) in the same year, and Comcast had first-look rights to all RSP shows through 2012. On The Howard Stern Show in 2009, Seacrest disclosed his two-year on-and-off relationship with model Sara Jean Underwood. Seacrest began dating Model Shayna Taylor in 2017 and the relationship ended in 2020.
