Early Life
Chappelle was born in Washington D.C, on August 24, 1973. His father was a professor at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio teaching vocal performance and was also a dean. His mother worked as a minister and a professor as well. He also has a stepmother and a stepbrother. He attended Woodlin Elementary School while growing up in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Chappelle donated his time to Seeds of Peace International Camp in Otisfield, Maine, in 2004. The camp brings together young leaders from conflict-affected communities.
