Early Life
Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer was born on May 21st, 1960 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Lionel and Joyce Dahmer. He was regarded as an enthusiastic and joyful child until the age of four when he underwent double hernia surgery.
His family relocated frequently after the birth of his younger sibling. During his early teens, he became more detached, tense, and friendless. Dahmer claimed that his compulsions for necrophilia and murder began when he was 14.
It appears that the breakdown of his parent’s marriage and their ugly divorce a few years later was the spark for turning these thoughts into actions. His alcohol consumption had gotten out of hand by the time he committed his first murder.
He dropped out of Ohio State University after only one semester because his newly remarried father insisted on him joining the Army. Dahmer then enrolled in 1978 and was assigned to the German army shortly after, but his drinking problem worsened.
The Army fired him in early 1981, and he returned to Ohio after his release. His father then sent him to live with his grandmother in Wisconsin after an arrest for disorderly conduct later that year. It didn’t stop his alcoholism, and he was jailed for indecent exposure the following summer.
He was arrested again in 1986 after two boys accused him of masturbating in front of them, and he received a one-year probationary term and then the real monstrous activities he performed started.
First Four Murders
In June 1978, shortly after graduating from high school, Dahmer picked up a hitchhiker named Steven Hicks and drove him home to his parent’s house. Dahmer got him drunk and strangled him with a barbell after punching him in the head.
Later, he disassembled his first victim’s body, packing the body parts in plastic bags and burying them behind his parents’ house, before crushing the bones with a sledgehammer and scattering them throughout a forested ravine.
Dahmer did not kill his second victim, Steven Tuomi, until September 1987. They checked into a hotel room and drank, and Dahmer awoke to find Tuomi dead with no memory of the previous night’s events. He purchased a huge suitcase to transfer Tuomi’s body to his grandma’s basement.
There he mutilated and masturbated on the dead body before disposing of the remains. After that, Dahmer killed two more people at his grandmother’s house. She got tired of his late hours and drinking despite having no awareness of his other activities and forced him to leave in 1988.
Sexual Assault Charges
Dahmer had an incredibly lucky escape in September 1989, when an incident with a 13-year-old Laotian boy resulted in allegations of sexual exploitation and second-degree sexual assault against him. He pleaded guilty, alleging that the boy appeared considerably older.
While awaiting sentencing in his sexual assault case, Dahmer lured, drugged, strangled, anally raped, photographed, dismembered, and disposed of Anthony Sears, an aspiring model, in March 1989.
Dahmer was the epitome of regret at his trial for child molestation in May 1989, arguing eloquently in his defense about how he had learned the error of his ways and how his arrest marked a turning point in his life.
His defense lawyer claimed that he required therapy rather than punishment, and the judge agreed, imposing a one-year prison term that allowed Dahmer to work during the day and return to the prison at night, as well as a five-year probationary sentence.
The judge, however, allowed Dahmer’s early release after completing only 10 months of his sentence. Following his release, he briefly lived with his grandmother, during which time he does not appear to have contributed to his body count, before returning to his own apartment.
The Last 13 Victims
Dahmer’s victim count increased over the next two years, rising from four to seventeen. As he proceeded, he established rituals, experimenting with chemical disposal methods and frequently ingesting the flesh of his victims.
Dahmer also attempted crude lobotomies on victims while they were still alive, drilling into their skulls and injecting them with muriatic acid. On May 27, 1991, Dahmer’s neighbour, Sandra Smith, called the police to report that an Asian youngster was running naked in the street.
When the police arrived, the boy was confused, and they took Dahmer’s word for it that the boy was his 19-year-old boyfriend. In reality, the boy was 14 years old and the brother of the Laotian teen Dahmer had been abused three years before.
After the cops left, Dahmer killed the boy and went on with his work. Police officials would have discovered the body of Dahmer’s 12th victim, Tony Hughes if they had undertaken even a brief search. Before being caught, Dahmer killed four more men.
Jeffrey Dahmer Caught
Jeffrey Dahmer invited Tracy Edwards to his house on July 22, 1991, for a movie and drinks. Dahmer then held Edwards down and threatened him with a knife. On the other hand, Edwards was able to free himself from his bonds and alert two passing police officers.

Dahmer was finally found guilty of the killings and sentenced to 15 consecutive life terms, totaling 975 years in prison; a 16th consecutive life term was added later for the murder of Steven Hicks in 1978.
