Edward Michael Grylls was born on June 7, 1974, to Sir Michael Grylls and Sarah. Grylls has an older sibling, Lara Fawcett. He was raised in Donaghadee, Northern Ireland until he was four years old and his family moved to Bembridge, Isle of Wight.
He began climbing and sailing at a young age with his father who was a member of the elite “Royal Yacht Squadron”. He also learned to skydive as a teenager and obtained a second dan black belt in Shotokan karate.
