Early Life

On September 10, 1932, Philip Baker Hall was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Alice Birdene and William Alexander Hall, a manufacturing worker from Montgomery, Alabama. He received his education at the University of Toledo.

He afterward worked as a high school teacher and as a translator for the United States Army in Germany. In New York City, he eventually worked for Off-Broadway and Broadway shows.

In the 1970s, Hall made his cinematic debut in Cowards before joining the Los Angeles Theatre Center. His first television appearance was in an episode of Good Times, and he later appeared in M*A*S*H and Man from Atlantis as a guest star.

Later, He also appeared in the film, Secret Honor. In the 1980s, Hall appeared in a number of films as a supporting actor, including Nothing in Common, Midnight Run, Say Anything…, and Ghostbusters II.
