Gennaro Anthony Sirico was born in New York City on July 29, 1942, and raised in Brooklyn’s East Flatbush and Bensonhurst neighborhoods. For the majority of his life, Tony resided with his mother, Marie Sirico.
Robert Sirico and Carmine Sirico are his two brothers. Robert was a Catholic priest and co-founder of the Acton Institute for Free Enterprise. Sirico had 28 arrests and was the subject of multiple convictions for offenses like disorderly conduct, assault, and robbery.
At the age of 7, he was detained for the first time for robbing a newsstand of nickels. He was frequently surrounded by mobs in his early years. Tony was sentenced to 13 months in jail in 1967 after being found guilty of robbing a Brooklyn after-hours bar.
He was detained in 1970 and a.32 caliber pistol was discovered on him. He was charged with extortion, coercion, and felony weapons possession in 1971. He was imprisoned for four years, of which 20 months were spent at Sing Sing.
During his imprisonment, an acting group made up of ex-convicts visited Sirico, which, according to Sirico, gave him the idea to start acting.
