It was while operating the No. 9 for Steve Lewis Racing, where he won the champions league in 2004. His father, Bob East, a noted short-track car driver, constructed the car’s chassis.

With 15 victories throughout the three divisions of the USAC series, East had the greatest success among drivers in 2004. Winning the Hut Hundred and the Turkey Night Grand Prix were the highlights of the season.

Team Lewis took first place overall in his No. 9 vehicle. After that, East started competing in stock car races. He failed to qualify for 3 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events in 2005.

In Memphis that same year, East made his NASCAR Busch Series debut and came in 17th. He also participated in the ARCA Re/Max Series that year. In 2007, Brewco Motorsports’ East participated in the Busch Series on a part-time basis.

Brewco became Baker Curb Racing following a change in ownership during the season. Despite losing the first two races of the season, East finished 23rd in points. In 2008, East returned to the Truck Series on a part-time basis.

He teamed up once more with Roush to drive their No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford F-150, which won the race’s pole at IRP. He was tasked with preparing Memphis, the same circuit where he had made his racing start three years earlier.

It was for the race in Carl Edwards’ Nationwide (previously Busch) Series No. 60 car. After the season, he announced his retirement from NASCAR, making this performance his final run in the series.
