Early Life

Bosh was born to Freida and Noel Bosh in Dallas, Texas, and was raised in Hutchins, which was a suburb of the city. He would often play basketball as a kid with his siblings.

He learned to dribble a basketball at the young age of 4. He was also tall for his age, so he always became the rebound whenever his peers played with him. He began taking the game seriously around fourth grade.

He briefly did karate and gymnastics and simultaneously played basketball until high school as a first baseman. He was inspired by Kevin Garnett, an NBA player who was his favourite influencer and athlete and also credits his parents.

He also academically excelled in school and was a member of the National Honor Society and several engineering organizations. He garnered attention when he was studying at Lincoln High School.

He played at the USA Today National Championship and ranked no. 1. He received the 4A state title and was also the High School Player of the Year by Basketball America, a First-Team All-American, and Powerade Player of the Year in Texas.

He was also a first-team All-State player, and Mr Basketball by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Bosh made it to the University of California and the University of Memphis but Coach Hewitt, coach of Georgia Tech.

He studied graphic design, management, and computer imaging while leading Yellow Jackets which led them to the Atlantic Coast Conference. He wanted to complete his degree, but the NBA’s call made him decide to play.

He was drafted for the NBA in 2003 while only a Freshman in college.  He has stated in interviews that he misses his college days a lot but made the right decision to begin playing in the NBA.

Career

Bosh was drafted by Toronto Raptors as a fourth overall pick, in 2003, and played as a rookie. He was however forced to play out of position and battled against players who had significant strength and advantage.

He stated that Michael Curry was his mentor and was often praised for playing with his injuries and pain. He was however putting all his efforts and made a franchise record for most rebounds in a rookie season.

He was titled the NBA All-Rookie First Team for the 2003-04 season. He was awarded his first NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week in the 2005’s season. Bosh ended as the lead scored at the end of the 2004-05 season.

He was the rebounder for the team. The following year he was named as one of the team captains and consistently continued to work on his game and was leading games in the first half of the season.

He was chosen to play in the NBA All-Star Game in Houston in 2006. He was the third Raptor to make it to an All-Star Game and was named the NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the second time in his career.

Bosh officially signed a three-year deal extension with the Raptors worth $65 million. The start of the 2006-07 season was not great but Bosh’s plays and leadership increased the team’s recognition due to his abilities.

He earned the NBA All-Star Game in 2007 and received the highest number of votes among all Eastern Conference Finals. His in-form streak helped him to qualify for the Eastern Conference Player of the Month and led the Raptors.

He made a career-high of 41 points and made the fans chant ‘MVP.’ In 2008, Toronto Raptors won his first division title and Bosh became a franchise record holder for double-doubles.

At the beginning of the 2007-08 season, Bosh had a slow start and no plan materialized as he planned. He however picked up form mid of season and earned Player of the Week.

Miami Heat

Bosh signed with the Miami Heat in 2010 and was part of the Player-created NBA superteam. Miami won the series in five games and also prevailed in five games in the semi-finals. Bosh remained as Heat’s start and Earned an All-Star starter in 2013.

The team achieved the league’s best record and advanced to the finals to face the San Antonio Spurs. Heat won the second consecutive NBA Championship after winning their first Championship in 2012.

In the 2014’s season, Bosh played and started 79 games and also hit a career-high of 74 three-point shots, and helped Miami return to the NBA finals. After he played in the 2015 All-Star game, he was admitted to the hospital.

He found that there was a blood clot in one of his lungs. He was once again chosen to play for the 2016 NBA All-Star game but however withdrew due to his calf injury. But he still had those issues in the seasons and was not eligible to play in 2016.

The NBA ruled that Chris Bosh’s blood clotting illness was his career’s end. In February 2019, Chris Bosh announced that he would formally retire from his NBA career.

National Team Career

Bosh simultaneously played for the national team in 2002 and qualified for the USA Basketball Junior World Championship and won a bronze medal. Bosh was under the United States Men’s national basketball team and helped the team lead.

The team once again won a bronze medal and ranked sixth in field goal percentage. He won a gold medal in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing defeating Spain in the finals.

Personal Life

Bosh had been in a relationship with his girlfriend, Allison Mathis but broke up eventually. He apparently failed to support her when she was seven months pregnant and tried to remove her from her house.

It became a paternity lawsuit but claimed that she wanted their daughter to have a good relationship with her father. He then married Adrienne Williams in 2011 and the couple has 4 children together and Trinity, from his relationship with Mathis.
