Early Life

Hardy is the son of Ruby Moore and Gilbert Hardy and the younger brother of Matt Hardy born in North Carolina, the U.S.A on August 31, 1977. His mother passed away 10 years after he was born due to brain cancer.

He had an interest in motocross and received his first bike, a Yamaha YZ-80 at the age of 12. He also played baseball but had to stop due to his injuries from a motocross race.

He also ventured into playing football as a fullback and a linebacker. He was interested in wrestling and competed in amateur wrestling in high school and chose wrestling when he was given the option to pick between wrestling and football.


Hardy and his friends started the Trampoline Wrestling Federation(TWF) and imitated the moves they saw on television. They changed it to different names but were soon integrated under a county fair in North Carolina.

The brothers and their friends worked for independent companies before arriving at WWF. The Hardy brothers however formed their own wrestling promotion, the Organization of Modern Extreme Grappling Arts(OMEGA).

It was alongside Thomas Simpson and included talented wrestlers such as Joey Matthews, Steve Corino, Shannon Moore, Gregory Helms, and many others. They all had different names apart from their real names like characters.

Hardy also held the New Frontier Championship(NFC) as a competitor and also the Tag Team Championship with Matt Hardy. The promotions took place when they signed with WWF- World Wrestling Federation, in 1998.

He was inspired by wrestlers such as Shawn Michaels, The Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan, and Sting. He joined the WWF as a wrestler who consistently made his opponents look weak, also known as a jobber.

Soon, his group ‘The Hardy Boyz,’ got recognition by WWF and got a contract in 1998 and were trained by wrestlers such as Christian, Test, A-Train, and Kurt Angle. Their manager was Michael Hayes and won their WWF Tag Team Championship in 1999.

Singles and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling

He went on to hold a record for competing as a Singles player in Intercontinental, Light Heavyweight, and Hardcore Championships. After years of being in the Tag Team, Hardy went on to take The Undertaker in a ladder match.

It was for the Undisputed WWE Championship and won against him. He won the European Championship but however lost the Intercontinental Championship. The Hardy Boyz split.

Hardy signed on to Stephanie McMahon’s ‘Smackdown!’ and also ‘Raw.’ He made an individual appearance leaving WWE at an OMEGA show in 2004 and used one of his former characters, ‘Willow the Wisp,’ to fight Krazy K but subsequently lost.

Hardy met his girlfriend Beth Britt in 1999 shortly after his tag team won the championship for the first time. Hardy’s house burned down in 2008 and his dog died in the fire.
