Jon Gruden was born on August 17, 1963, in Ohio, USA. His full name is Joe David Gruden. His father worked as a professional football coach. His family is of Slovene descent. His parents are Jay and Kathy Gruden. He also has a sibling named Jay Gruden.

He completed his high school at Clay High School in Indiana. After that, he joined Muskingum College in Ohio to get his bachelor’s. One year at Muskingum College he shifted to the University of Dayton and from there he graduated with a bachelor’s in communications.

Career

After graduating from the University of Dayton, Gruden was given a job at the University of Tennessee as a graduate assistant coach for one year. After that, he worked as the quarterback coach for two years at Southeast Missouri State.

Then he was hired by Walt Harris for whom Gruden earlier worked as the graduate assistant, to be the offensive assistant at the University of the Pacific. By March 1991, he became the coach for the wide receivers at the University of Pittsburg.

At the age of 28, he was invited to be the special offensive assistant to the Green Bay Packers. One of his former bosses hired him for this position. He worked with the Packers for three years and then moved to Philadelphia Eagles.

He was then chosen to be the head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 1998. Under Gruden’s training Raiders qualified for the playoffs in the three years at the AFC West. The 2000 season became the most successful season of the decade.
