Early Life
Antonio Salvatore Ladanza was born in the city of Brooklyn in New York, on April 21, 1951. His father worked as a waste collector, and his mother worked as a bookkeeper. Matty Jr., his younger brother, is a Los Angeles restaurant owner who was born in 1954.
He grew up in East New York, Brooklyn until he was 14 years old when his family moved to Malverne, Long Island. Malverne High School was his alma mater, and he graduated in 1969. His bachelor’s degree in history was earned at the University of Dubuque.
He received a wrestling scholarship to attend university when his buddies forced him to participate in the New York City Golden Gloves, where he unexpectedly advanced to the finals, where he finally lost. Danza met and married his first wife while still in college.
Career
He received his first job after graduating when a producer chose him for the TV show Taxi. He then went on to play a baseball player and a single father in Who’s The Boss? which helped him break into the television industry.
He was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a street address of 7000 Hollywood Boulevard. He also appeared in situation comedies such as The Tony Danza Show and Hudson Street.
