Early Life

Medina was born on January 24, 1958, in California to Dominican parents in a poor family. The death of his mother and abandonment by his father resulted in him being in countless foster homes and was subsequently taken by his aunt.

He became friends with a wealthy white teen and his family allowed him to live in their garage in Beverly Hills. He also attended Beverly Hills High and got a chance to star in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Career

Medina initially joined a singing group called Apollo and released an album on Gordy/Motown in 1979. Medina co-wrote some of the tracks, The Temptations, Rick James, and Smokey Robinson, who was the lead singer for these tracks.

These were produced by Ray Motown. He became the head of AR&R for Motown at the age of 24 and was a protégé of Berry Gordy. He then moved to Warner Bros. Records and was asked to cultivate positions of VP and GM with popular artists.

He left Warner Bros. and formed Medina Entertainment which became full-time service management and production company. They had worked on films such as Maid in Manhattan, Above the Rim, and Booty Call.

In 2009, it changed its name to the Medina Company. Medina launched Jennifer Lopez’s music career in 1999 along with Tommy Mottola but was fired by Lopez. He however resumed working with Lopez in 2008 and is a godparent to her twin kids.
