Early Life

Caleb Sylvester Swanigan was born on April 18, 1997, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the U.S. to Carl Swanigan Sr. and Tanya. He had 5 siblings. Due to his father’s crack cocaine addiction, he grew up in a volatile household.

Swanigan attended 13 different schools by the time he was 13 years old, switching between homeless shelters and schools as a young boy. Swanigan weighed 360 pounds and stood 6 feet 2 inches when he started eighth grade.

His father struggled with drug addiction for the majority of his adult life and had numerous run-ins with the law. Later, Caleb and his family moved to Houston. When Caleb was 8 years old, he was adopted.

High School Career

The Portland Trail Blazers selected Swanigan with the 26th overall pick in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft. Swanigan became the first basketball player from Purdue to go in the second round or below of the draught.

Swanigan was named to the All-Summer League First Team at the 2017 NBA Summer League despite not helping the Trail Blazers win the championship. In 2017, the Canton Charge gave Swanigan his first NBA G League assignment.
