Early Life
Daniel “Dee” Snider was born on March 15, 1955, in Astoria, Queens, New York City, to Marguerite, a former art teacher, and Bob, a retired New York State Trooper and Nassau County court clerk. He was raised on Long Island.
In 1973, he earned his degree from Baldwin Senior High School. Snider was chosen for the All-State Chorus because of his singing ability throughout his youth. He participated in a church choir and the Baldwin High School Concert Choir.
Career
In the 1980s, Dee Snider rose to fame in the hard rock genre as the lead vocalist for the New Jersey-based glam-metallers Twisted Sister in the early days. Along with Frank Zappa and John Denver, he testified against censorship in 1985 in opposition.
It was to the Tipper Gore-led PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center) — The universal anthems, We’re Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock by Snider, and the company hit the charts in 1984. For $7 million, Snider sold Universal Music Publishing Group his rights to the Twisted Sister music, which included a collection of 69 songs. Given that the publishing company provided the musicians with an annual income.
It would last them for several years, he received “a lot of money” from UMPG. The nicest part of the agreement is that he would only pay 20% tax as opposed to 50% as the sales represented a capital gain.
Following the group’s breakup in 1987, he started a number of solos, group, and other acting and voice-over endeavors. With guitarist Bernie Torme, bassist Marc Russell, and drummer Clive Burr, Snider founded a band called Desperado in 1988.

He then started the heavier Widowmaker, keeping Russell on bass and adding Al Pitrelli, Joey Franco, and a drummer. Before breaking up, Widowmaker, made their debut with 1992’s Blood & Bullets.
They managed to complete one more album, 1994’s Stand by for Pain. Snider then focused on acting in movies, particularly those in the horror subgenre. In 1998, he wrote, produced, and starred in Strangeland.
He occasionally appeared on stage with the SMFs, a group that specialized in Twisted Sister music. Never Let the Bastards Wear You Down was Snider’s debut solo album, which he released in 2000. Most of the songs on the album were unreleased songs that Snider had never recorded before. In 2012 he appeared with Dee Does Broadway and in 2016 with We Are the Ones.
It was an acoustic cover of the Twisted Sister anthem We’re Not Gonna Take It. He continued to act and do voice-over work into the 2000s in a variety of TV series and films like Celebrity Apprentice, Rock of Ages, Spongebob Squarepants, and more.
He released his fourth solo album, For the Love of Metal, in 2018. For the Love of Metal: Live! was released in 2020, and the rousing Leave a Scar, a new studio album, was released. His sixth studio album “Leave a Scar” was released in 2021.
He co-hosted Fangoria Radio on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Sirius Stars channel 102 in 2006 and hosted a primetime radio show for Philadelphia’s 93.3 WMMR in 2005. He also previously hosted a popular radio show on Connecticut’s WMRQ in 2003.

In 1982, Snider married Suzette, a costume designer. Jesse Blaze Snider, Shane Royal Snider, Cody Blue Snider, and Cheyenne Jean Snider are their four children. He has four grandchildren as well.
