Sam Lowry Hunt was brought up in Cedartown, Georgia, USA, on December 8, 1984. He was born into a middle-class household. Joan Hunt, his father, worked as an insurance agent, and Allen Hunt, his mother, was a primary school teacher. His parents raised him well. Hunt was reared alongside his two brothers, Van and Ben Hunt.
He went to Cedartown High School first and after graduating from there, he continued his education at Tennessee State University. He was an exceptional athlete who excelled as a collegiate quarterback at Middle Tennessee State University and the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
He studied philosophy at UAB before earning a business degree in economics. He was invited to training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs after graduating from UAB in 2007.
He traveled to Nashville to start his career as a singer in 2008, two months after his fruitless attempt to impress the football club. He had a natural talent for singing when he was a child, and he was also a talented football player. But he preferred music to football.
Hunt secured a publishing agreement right away and started writing tunes. He’s written or co-authored a number of songs, including Kenny Chesney’s ‘Come Over,’ Keith Urban’s ‘Cop Car,’ Billy Currington’s ‘We Are Tonight,’ and many others.
Hunt made his professional music debut in 2013 with the tune ‘Raised on It,’ which he self-released. In the same year, he released a 15-song demo mixtape called ‘Between the Pines,’ which he released independently.
Early in 2014, Hunt inked a recording deal with MCA Nashville, and the label released the single ‘Leave the Night on’ that same year in preparation for an album.
Later that year, ‘Leave the Light On’ became a No. 1 country smash. Hunt’s first-ever album, ‘Montevallo,’ hit No. 1 on the country chart and No. 3 on the pop chart when it was released in 2014.
It also spawned three other singles: ‘Take Your Time,’ ‘House Party,’ and ‘Break Up in a Small Town,’ all of which reached number one. His breakthrough has earned him numerous nominations and honors, including the 2015 American Music Awards’ New Artist of the Year Award.
Montevallo was a big hit, and Hunt’s sophomore album, Southside, catapulted him into country music’s upper echelon. Hunt is riding high thanks to his plethora of Billboard singles in the United States and their northern neighbors in Canada, as well as writing songs for country royalty like Reba McEntire. The 36-year-old artist now has two No. 1 albums under his belt, as well as a CMT Music Award and a lot of other prestigious honors.
Hunt got engaged to Hannah Lee Fowler in 2017, according to reports. Hunt’s album Montevallo was inspired in large part by Fowler, whom he had been dating on and off since 2008.
In his song ‘Drinkin’ Too Much,’ he mentions her by name and tells their story. Hunt’s hometown of Cedartown, Georgia, hosted their wedding in 2017. In Tennessee, Fowler filed for divorce in 2022, citing infidelity as the reason. Fowler and Hunt are expecting their first child, according to reports.
Hunt was convicted in Nashville, Tennessee in 2019 for reportedly driving while inebriated. Hunt was found guilty of a DUI conviction nearly two years prior in the year 2021.
His driver’s license was suspended for a year as a result of the conviction, and he was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days in prison, with the exception of 48 hours, and then suspended.
