On the 18th of December in 1954, Raymond Allen Liotta was born in Newark, New Jersey. He was adopted by township clerk Mary Edgar and auto-parts store owner Alfred Liotta when he was only six months old. He had a sister, who was also adopted. Apart from her, he had one biological half-brother and five biological half-sisters.
In terms of his education, he graduated from Union High School in New York City in 1973 and was a member of the school’s Hall of Fame. He then went on to study acting at the University of Miami, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1978. While there, he appeared in musicals like Cabaret, Dames at Sea, Oklahoma, and The Sound of Music.

Liotta moved to New York after graduating from college. Within six months, he had found work as a bartender at the Shubert Organization and was signed by an agent. In his early acting career, he appeared in the soap opera Another World (1978-1981).
He then relocated to Los Angeles, where he made his acting debut in the film The Lonely Lady (1983). Match, a Stephen Belber play, gave Liotta his Broadway debut in 2004.
