Ryan Kyle Coogler was born in Oakland, California on May 23rd, 1986 to Joselyn, a political activist, and Ira Coogler, a juvenile hall parole counselor. Keenan and Noah are Ryan’s two siblings.

Until he was eight years old, he resided in Oakland. He moved to Richmond, California, afterward. Ryan used to enjoy football and track when he was a youngster. Saint Mary’s College High School in Berkeley, California, was where he received his education.
