Atiim Kiambu was born to James Barber, a World Football League great running back at Virginia Tech, and Geraldine Barber, a hardworking woman who often worked two jobs to support her three sons.
Barber grew up with two brothers, Tarik Barber, and Ronde Barber, who were the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback and safety and also happens to be his identical twin brother and was born seven minutes before Tiki.
Professional Football Career
Barber was drafted in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. Using his punt return and receiving skills, he racked up 1,639 all-purpose yards.
Barber’s career year in terms of rushing yards was 2005, which was a rebound year for the Giants. The following year, he would set a new record. His 95-yard touchdown run broke Hap Moran’s 91-yard mark for the Giants’ longest touchdown run.
He received a nomination for the FedEx Ground Player of the Year Award in 2005. Barber also signed an extension in 2005, which lasted until 2008 and doubled his income.
Post Football Career
Barber’s responsibilities as a Today correspondent included anchoring lifestyle programs and reporting on breaking news issues. Barber’s highlight of the year in 2006 was a lunch with Condoleezza Rice.
