Early Life

On May 19, 1981, Mario Mims was born in Memphis, Tennessee. His parents, uncles, and aunts were all hustlers. He grew up in a middle-class family. He was raised in the notoriously crime-ridden RidgeCrest housing projects.

Police invaded their home when Mario was in second grade, and his parents and other family members were jailed. As a result of having to fend for himself, he began tugging on the streets.

He began rapping at the age of 14 with his crew in Memphis throughout the 1990s. In 1996, he released his first Gangsta style Underground album entitled ‘Youngsta On A Come Up’ as ‘Lil Yo’ on the ‘Crime Lordz Records’ label.

The album quickly became a local hit, establishing Yo Gotti as the leader of a local underground hip-hop group and one of Memphis’ most talented rappers as well helped him gain his popularity.
