Early Life
Gavin Louis Escobar was born on February 3rd, 1991 to Harry and Erin in New York. He actively participated in school football after falling in love with the sport. Escobar spent his entire childhood in Rancho Santa Margarita, California.
High School Career
Escobar attended Santa Margarita Catholic High School in California, where he played football and basketball. In 2008, he was a Trinity League second-team offensive selection after catching 37 passes for 492 yards and six touchdowns.
As a junior, he caught 11 receptions for 163 yards per catch (14.8 yards per catch). Rivals.com rated Escobar as a two-star prospect. Escobar was highly recruited coming out of high school and ultimately committed to play college football at San Diego State University.
College Career
Escobar earned a football scholarship from San Diego State University. He was a wide receiver for the San Diego State Aztecs from 2009 to 2012. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer as a junior but was in remission after the tumour was removed.
Escobar was 5th in the Mountain West Conference in receptions (51), receiving yards (780), receiving touchdowns (7), and receiving yards per reception (15.3). During his college career, he had 122 receptions for 1,646 yards and 17 touchdowns and did not miss a game.
Professional Career
The Dallas Cowboys drafted Escobar in the second round (47th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. Gavin went on to play four seasons with Dallas, totalling 30 receptions, 333 yards, and eight touchdowns.
In 2017, he was hired by the Kansas City Chiefs but was cut before the start of the season and taken by the Baltimore Ravens, where he only lasted a month there. Following the 2017 season, Escobar became a free agent and did not sign with another NFL team.
He then joined the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins in the offseason. He was unable to play a regular season game in any of the games mentioned above. His professional career ended in 2019.
It was a brief run with the defunct Alliance of American Football’s San Diego team. Since February 2022, Gavin had been a firefighter in Long Beach, California, where he was assigned to Fire Station 3 on B-Shift.

Firefighters rushed to the call and discovered the lifeless remains of two people, subsequently identified as Escobar and Chelsea Walsh. The Cowboys, Aztecs, and LBFD all paid tribute to Escobar and his family.
