Benjamin Ashenafi Gordon was born to Jamaican parents on April 4, 1983, in London, England. His parents had moved to the United States shortly after his birth, and so he was raised in Mount Vernon, New York.
Gordon played basketball in high school and led the Mount Vernon Knights to New York State public and federation championships. He was an All-Star (state) player and was listed among the top 40 prospects in the country.
College Career
Gordon chose to attend the University of Connecticut, where he played for their team, the UConn Huskies, finishing second in scoring. Gordon hit the game-winning 3-pointer for the Huskies in the Big East Tournament.
He surpassed all records in his sophomore year to earn Second Team All-Big East accolades. Gordon received great marks in his junior and senior years. He once set a Big East Tournament record with 81 points.

Mental Issues
Gordon has also been suffering from mental illness for a few years. He was hospitalized in 2017 for a psychiatric evaluation following an altercation with a female customer at a holistic wellness center in Mount Vernon, New York.
