Early Life

Horschel was born in Florida on December 7, 1986, to Billy Horschel Dr. and Kathy Horschel. He has two brothers who were also fond of playing sports. Horschel initially took up Baseball but got injured at the age of 14.

It led him to choose Golf. It became his passion and wanted to play professional Golf since. Horschel attended the University of Florida and earned a degree in Sports management.

He got through the University with a scholarship where he played for the Florida Gator’s men’s golf team in National Collegiate Athletic Association. He played from 2006 to 2009 and won three first-team honors.

He also won four All-Americans, and the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year in 2007 and 2009. Horschel even went to represent the U.S on two occasions at the Palmer Cup in 2007 and 2008. He also won the prestigious Walker Cup.

He individually won medalist honors at the 2006 U.S Amateur at the Hazeltine National Gold Club in Chaska, Minnesota. He made a record for opening the game and held a USGA record. Horschel however could not make it to the 2006 U.S Open.

Career Highlights

Horschel’s full-time professional career began in 2009 and got a qualifying card to play on the PGA Tour. He however did not win any of the games due to his wrist injury.

Horschel went on to play for Mayakoba Golf Classic and True South Classic but did not complete them successfully. His best game was in 2012’s Web.com Tour in which he completed the 4th place at the Stadion Classic, UGA.

He once again qualified for the PGA Tour in 2013 and made the cut in every season from this. He consecutively scored in the top-10 finishes and had his breakthrough win at the 2013’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

He won at the 2014 BMW Championship and moved 23rd in World rankings which were followed by another win in the Tour Championship winning the FedEx Cup. This moved Horschel to the 14th in Official World Golf Rankings.

He also won the BMW PGA Championship which was his second-European Tour victory. The following year, 2022, he won the Jack Nicklaus Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. This was his 7th PGA Tour Title and one of his victorious tournaments.

Personal Life

Horschel got married to Brittany Nelson in 2010. The couple has three children together and got acquainted while studying at the University of Florida. Brittany too played Golf at the university but gave up due to an injury.

Apart from playing Golf, Horschel occasionally enjoys snowboarding. He also keeps up with Baseball and supports Boston Red in Major League Baseball, as well as New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars.
