Rondo got serious about pursuing basketball and attended Louisville’s Eastern High School. His 3 years over there fetched him a spot in All-State honors and was the 7th Region Player of the Year.
Rondo then transferred to Virginia Oak Hill Academy for his senior year and broke a record of 303 assists averaging a double-double. His 55-point game in high school was the 2nd highest all-time in Oak Hill Academy’s history of basketball.
In 2004, Rondo was suggested to the McDonald’s All-American Team and also participated in the Jordan Capital Classic game. Rondo then joined the University of Kentucky where he played against Louisville, South Carolina, and Central Florida.
But Kentucky did not make it to the NCAA Tournament finals. However, he set two Kentucky records. He was qualified for the U.S. men’s national basketball team, under-21, and they won the gold medal at the Global Games in Texas.

Rondo was soon drafted for the NBA and so he let go of the final two seasons at the University of Kentucky. He was initially drafted by Phoenix Suns and was the 21st overall pick in the 2006 NBA draft.
He later was traded to Boston Celtics alongside Brian Grant, for Cleveland Cavaliers as well. During his time as a rookie player, Rondo played only a supporting role and split time with Delonte West and Sebastian Telfair.
His debut in his rookie season did not receive much recognition and a starting position and he appeared only in twenty-five games. It was just midway through the season that he received a spot and more playtime.

He moved on to play for the Sacramento Kings where he played for one season and signed a contract with Chicago Bulls.
